Hints and Tips to prepare for your marathon

As the big day draws near, Hinterland Chiropractic have a few hints and tips to prepare you for your marathon.

Same Old

Do not change too much so close to the marathon; now is not the time to buy new runners, or trial new clothes, gels, or drinks, if you have not trialed it throughout your training, leave it.

Choose your outfit and accessories ready for the big day and wear them on a few runs so you know how comfortable they are.

Slow Down

A week out from the race the bulk of your training should be done, so relax and let your muscles have a break in preparation for the big day. Do not overdo it and turn up stiff and aching.

Get Familiar with the Course

Getting familiar with the course can help take away some of those pre-run nerves. Knowing where the hills are, toilet stops, and water stations can help prepare you mentally for the big day.

Fuel Yourself

Carb loading in the days leading up to the marathon will help fuel your run but be careful not to overload yourself the night before; there is nothing worse than feeling bloated and sluggish the day of a long run.

Sleep

Resting your body and mind in the lead up to your marathon is essential. Getting your beauty sleep in the lead up to the marathon will help energise you and give you the best start.

Get a Massage

Call Hinterland Chiropractic and book in a sports massage; this will elevate any aches, pains, and tightness, so you can feel nimble and limber for your run. Do not let poor preparation ruin months of hard training.
